Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 5 large eggs, separated
  • 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • For topping: 2 cups heavy cream, whipped with 3 tbsp sugar
  • Fresh berries for garnish

Instructions

  1. 1

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

  2. 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

In a large bowl, beat egg yolks with 3/4 cup sugar until pale yellow. Stir in milk and vanilla.

  4. 4

Fold flour mixture into egg yolk mixture until just combined.

  5. 5

In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add remaining 1/4 cup sugar, beating until stiff peaks form.

  6. 6

Gently fold egg whites into batter until no white streaks remain.

  7. 7

Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

  8. 8

While cake is still warm, pierce the surface all over with a fork.

  9. 9

In a large measuring cup, whisk together condensed milk, evaporated milk, and 1 cup heavy cream. Pour slowly over the cake, allowing it to soak in.

  10. 10

Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

  11. 11

Before serving, spread whipped cream over the top and garnish with fresh berries.
